How to Fit Kitchen Doors
Planning & preparation
- This guide is going to show you how to fit doors to your kitchen cabinets, with specific emphasis on Wickes Lifestyle Kitchens. Bear in mind that fitting instructions may vary depending on the design and type of cabinet doors, so be sure to always check the manufacturer’s instructions that will be provided in the pack
- Before you begin, lay all the parts out on the floor. This is a good way to check you have everything you need and to get a sense of how the parts will fit together
- Empty the provided fittings into a bowl or keep them sealed in their plastic bags so they don’t get lost
Do it right
- Take care not to over-tighten the cabinet hinges as this can damage your kitchen units
- If provided, always use the fixings as intended and ensure that your cabinets are level
- When fitting cabinet doors and accessories to wall units, make sure you use a step ladder rather than stand on the base cabinets or worktop, as this can cause unnecessary damage
Staying safe
- Wear safety goggles and take care when using a drill
- This guide is designed to walk you safely through the process of fitting kitchen cabinet doors. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions
- If you’re in any doubt or have chosen a Wickes Bespoke Kitchen, you can contact us for a Wickes Approved Installer to install your new kitchen
Aftercare
- A few weeks after installation, check the fixings to ensure they remain tight and in place - adjust if necessary
- Always use cleaning supplies that are appropriate for your kitchen doors to avoid damaging the material. You should be able to find guidance on this in your manufacturer’s instructions
How to fit kitchen doors
Screw the cabinet hinge plates into the inside of the cabinet. Many plates come with the screws already inserted.
Insert the cabinet hinges on the door itself, with the fastening facing outwards, and secure using the screws supplied.
Position the door on the cabinet, placing the cabinet hinges onto the hinge plates and use the screws in the hinges to attach.
Using the appropriate screwdriver, tighten the screws to secure the kitchen door.
To move the door up or down, loosen the screws that hold the cabinet hinge plate, adjust and retighten.
To move the door in or out, loosen the screws attaching the cabinet hinges to the hinge plate, move the cabinet door and retighten.
How to attach handles to kitchen doors and drawers
Using a clamp, attach an offcut of timber to the outside of the open door where the cabinet handles will be. This will make sure the wood does not splinter as you drill through.
Drill both holes from the inside of the door, using a drill bit slightly wider than the thread of the screws.
Attach the cabinet handles with the screws, being careful not to over-tighten as this could damage your cabinet door.
