Secure online shopping at Wickes

When you shop online at Wickes.co.uk your browser will automatically go into secure mode.

To check if you are in secure mode, look for a padlock icon on the top left-hand side of the address bar in your browser. In Safari you will see a grey padlock. Either of these occurrences indicates that the webpage is secure, and all information sent via that page is encrypted.

In 'secure mode', all your details are encrypted. This creates a secret with billions upon billions of combinations to protect each action sent and received on our site, so your personal information cannot be viewed by anyone else using the Internet. Our site supports 128 or 256 bit encryption and only recent cipher suites. We also support Forward Secrecy, thereby keeping your details as safe as possible. Our secure connection receives an A rating from www.ssllabs.com.

The Wickes.co.uk website only accepts information sent using a secure connection. This technology prevents you from inadvertently revealing personal information using an insecure connection. In addition, we use HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) to protect our customers from SSL/TLS Stripping and other security downgrade attacks.

The Wickes.co.uk website will never see or process your card details. All card details are sent directly from your browser to our trusted payment processor over a secure, encrypted communication channel. This is done using the same methods described above. This ensures that your payment information is inaccessible to anyone from Wickes.

If you make a payment by PayPal, this payment will be subject to PayPal’s User Agreement and Privacy Policy. PayPal uses the latest in data encryption and anti-fraud technology to help keep your information secure, reducing the risk of online fraud.

Shopping safely online with Wickes

We want you to be able to shop safely on Wickes.co.uk. Below are some FAQs to help you understand how to protect yourself when shopping online.

How do I shop safely online?

There are number of things you can do to help protect yourself while shopping online:

  • Use a unique password for each website you use. This means if one of the websites you use has a security breach that leaks your password, it won’t allow an attacker to access accounts on other websites
  • Use a password which is difficult to guess. Don’t use birthdays or places where you live. Adding numbers or special characters makes it more difficult to guess
  • Keep your computer up to date with security patches
  • Install anti-virus software and keep it up to date
  • Keep up to date with good security advice available from resources such as GetSafeOnline.org

How can I check if my email address has been associated with historical third party security breaches?

HaveIBeenPwned is a free independent service (not associated with Wickes) that tracks security breaches associated with email addresses. This service allows you to check if your details have been included in breaches from other websites or included on any lists of data that is known to have been compromised.

If you have used a password that has been associated with a breach on any other websites you should change these passwords as soon as possible.

What should I do if I think someone knows my Wickes password?

You should change the password for your account to make sure that no-one else knows your password. You can do this by logging into your online account (see further guidance below) or by calling our customer service team on 0330 123 4123 who can send you a link to reset your password.

How do I reset my password for Wickes.co.uk?

Log in to your account and navigate to the ‘My Profile’ page. You will see an option to change your password.

We recommend that you change your password regularly and use a unique password for your Wickes account. It is a good idea to use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. You should not use the same password for any other websites.

How do I change the password on my PayPal account?

You will need to log in to your PayPal account and follow their process to change your password. The next time you shop with us and select to pay with PayPal, you will be asked to enter your email address and your new password. You should not use the same password as your Wickes account.

My saved payment details have stopped working

We occasionally disable saved payment details as a precaution. We have temporarily disabled the feature to save payment details whilst we make further enhancements to our service. We will activate this feature again when we have completed these improvements.

I’ve been called by someone saying they are from Wickes, how can I be sure they are genuine?

We will never call you and ask for password or payment details over the phone. If you have received a call claiming to be from Wickes, you can call our customer services team on 0330 123 4123 to check that the call is genuine.
