Can you plaster over wallpaper?

You should not plaster directly over wallpaper as this will create a weakened surface with poor adhesion. Instead, you should remove the wallpaper and leftover adhesive before applying your plaster. Not sure where to start? Check out our guide explaining how to remove wallpaper.

How long does plaster take to dry?

The length of time plaster takes to dry will depend on the type of plaster you’ve used as well as the ventilation and temperature of your room. Thin coats in well-ventilated rooms may take 3-7 days to dry whereas thicker coats of plaster can take up to two weeks to fully dry.

If you’re planning on painting over fresh plaster, it’s important you wait until the plaster has fully cured before you apply your paint.

Can you plaster over paint?

Yes, you can plaster over paint, however you should first create a smooth surface by sanding the wall and removing any flaked paint. You should also apply a suitable PVA adhesive to ensure adhesion between the paint and plaster.
