FAQ
Should I choose a top hung or centre pivot VELUX window?
A top hung window opens outwards from the top, for maximum ventilation and unobstructed views. This style is best for higher installations or in rooms where there might be obstructions, such as furniture or countertops, beneath the window. A centre pivot window opens from a central hinge, for easy and convenient operation. This window is recommended for rooms with lower ceilings as it’s easily accessible even when fully opened. Furthermore, it provides a wider range of opening options, great for ventilation.
How do I manually open a VELUX window?
Find the control bar or handle. If you picked a top hung window this is at the bottom of the sash. For centre pivot windows it’s towards the middle. Grasp the handle firmly and pull it towards you. If your window is at a higher installation, you might need to use a pole to do this. This releases the lock mechanism and allows the window to open. To close the window, push the handle back towards the closed position. Ensure that the window is securely locked by listening for a click or by visually confirming that the lock mechanism has engaged.
Do electric VELUX windows require extra wiring?
It’s relatively straightforward to install an electronic VELUX window and it doesn’t require any complex electrical work. These windows operate on a wireless system that controls them remotely. The integrated motor opens and closes the windows with the press of a button. This is powered by a rechargeable battery located within the window frame, eliminating the need for external wiring.
