Salamander Pumps buying guide
Boost Water Pressure and Flow
Salamander Pumps is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of water boosting products. Our range includes products designed to improve water flow and pressure, with solutions for boosting a single outlet, such as a tap or shower, a bathroom, or the whole house.
When your water is underperforming
A shower that lacks power, a bath that takes too long to fill or a tap with not enough flow to wash your hands properly can all be signs that your water isn’t performing as it should.
And it's not just the bathroom...
Maybe you’ve upgraded your kitchen tap and it takes an eternity to fill the kettle, or you’re struggling to get the performance from more than one outlet running at the same time.
The solution to low water pressure and flow
Before replacing taps, changing your shower or spending money on more expensive upgrades, it’s worth looking at your water pressure and flow. A Salamander Pumps product could be a simple solution to help improve the performance of your bathroom, kitchen or household outlets. From pumps designed for a single tap or shower, to options that can boost the whole house, the Salamander Pumps range offers solutions to suit different needs.

The below products are suitable for boosting water in a gravity-fed system, except for TapBoost which is suitable for both gravity or mains-fed water.
What to check before buying
Selecting the right pump for your gravity-fed system is key to achieving reliable, long-lasting performance. Use the below guide to help find the right pump for your needs.
Step 1 - Do you have a gravity-fed system?
Low water pressure and flow is a common problem in UK homes, particularly older properties with a gravity-fed system.
A gravity-fed system means your hot water comes from a cylinder, usually in an airing cupboard, while cold water is supplied from a large storage tank, often in the loft.
For more information, the video below explains how to identify a gravity-fed system in more detail.
Step 2 - What water supply do you want to pump?
Determine whether you want to boost the hot or cold water, or both.
Step 3 - Types of appliances or outlets?
Before choosing a pump, consider where you need to improve your water pressure and flow. You may only need to boost a single shower or tap, or you may require a solution for an entire bathroom or your whole house. This could include showers, baths, basins, toilet cisterns or appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers.
Some pumps are designed for specific outlets, while others can boost multiple outlets or a whole house. The compatibility icons in the “Explore the range” section above show which applications each pump is suitable for, helping you find the right pump for your needs.
Step 4 - Do you need a positive or universal (negative head) pump?
A gravity-fed system will be either positive or negative head and will indicate the type of pump needed.
A positive head pump will only work in a positive head system. A universal (negative head) pump will work in both so if you’re unsure, choose a universal pump.
The video below explains the differences in more details.
How to check if your system is positive or negative head?
A positive head pump is flow activated which means it turns on when it senses the minimum flow of water passing through the pump and out of the pumped outlet, such as a shower or tap.
The minimum flow rate required for a positive head pump from Salamander Pumps is 2 litres of water per minute (L/min). Use the following steps to measure your natural flow rate.
