How to clean laminate flooring

You can clean laminate flooring by first sweeping or vacuuming the surface to remove any debris. Next, fill a mop bucket with water and a neutral cleaning product or specialist laminate cleaner. Lightly dampen your mop and wring it out before mopping the laminate, following the grain to avoid streaks. Once clean, wipe away any standing water and dry the floor for a streak-free finish.

Can you paint laminate flooring?

Yes, you can paint laminate flooring, something you may need to do to cover any scuffs, dents and stains. If your laminate flooring does need a refresh, painting it is always a fantastic cost-effective solution. We recommend using a paint primer for a smooth and durable finish. 

How to cut laminate flooring

You can cut laminate flooring by first measuring and marking the desired cut line before using a fine-toothed saw, such as a jigsaw or circular saw, to intricately cut along the guideline. Always take care by cutting slowly and accurately to achieve a precise outcome.

Is laminate flooring waterproof?

Usually, laminate flooring isn’t waterproof, but many variations are water resistant, making it ideal for the kitchen as opposed to the bathroom.

Can you mop laminate flooring?

Absolutely. You can mop laminate flooring, but it’s recommended you only use a mildly damp microfibre mop instead of a soaking wet one. Excess water tends to seep into the joints which can damage the floor over time.

Can you use a steam mop on laminate flooring?

It’s recommended that you avoid steam mopping laminate flooring as the head and moisture can seep into the joints, causing the floorboards to warp, swell or delaminate over time.

Can you use carpet underlay for laminate flooring?

No, you shouldn’t use carpet underlay under laminate flooring as it’s too soft, causing movement and joints to separate or damage over time.

It’s made from four layers: a wear layer that’s the most robust and durable, a decorative layer that often mimics wood, tile or stone, a core layer that’s made from high-density fibreboard (HDF) for extra strength and stability, and a backing layer for moisture resistance purposes.
