FAQs
How do you cut chipboard sheets?
When cutting chipboard sheets, we recommend that you start by gathering the necessary tools to achieve your desired outcome. Whether you opt for a circular saw or jigsaw fitted with a carbide-tipped blade, don’t forget that you will always need safety goggles and a measuring tape on hand.
Begin by measuring and marking your desired cut lines on the chipboard sheet using a pencil. Before you start the cutting process, always make sure your sheet is sufficiently supported on a stable surface to avoid any accidents or errors. Then, adjust the cutting depth of your blade to slightly exceed the thickness of your chipboard sheet.
Once you’re ready to cut, position the saw at the starting point of the guideline, holding it firmly with both hands. Once switched on, guide the saw along your marked line, applying steady pressure to get you a smooth and accurate cut.
If you want to accomplish curved or more intricate cuts, opt for a jigsaw with a fine-toothed blade for exceptional precision. When using a jigsaw, you’ll want to drill a pilot hole at the beginning of your marked line to insert the blade.
Remember, you should always wear protective goggles during the cutting process to shield your eyes from any chipboard debris. If you’d like the edges to be smoother than what your saw has achieved, go in with some sandpaper or a router.
What are chipboard sheets used for?
Chipboard sheets are a cost-effective and practical solution for a wide range of purposes. Many DIY’ers and construction projects utilise them for flooring underlayment, furniture manufacturing and interior panelling. The retail sector also uses them for advertising purposes, making them a very versatile resource.
How many screws do I need per chipboard flooring?
For chipboard flooring, a common guideline is to use approximately 6 screws per square foot of flooring. This enables optimum stability and support for your chosen flooring. You may need to adjust the amount of screws depending on the thickness and size of the chipboard panels, as well as any other specific requirements to your project.
